Principlev1
For high-stakes classifications, explicitly name adjacent
For high-stakes classifications, explicitly name adjacent categories and assess asymmetric costs of each error direction before committing to action protocols.
Why This Is a Principle
Derives from Every detection system faces a fundamental tradeoff between (detection involves sensitivity-specificity tradeoff), Signal detection involves independent dimensions of (independent dimensions of sensitivity and specificity), and Schemas as Knowledge Organization Structures (schemas specify relationships that guide action). The lesson shows that miscategorization activates wrong action chains. This principle prescribes deliberate tradeoff analysis, following from axioms about signal detection and schema-guided action.
