Skimming-as-filtering anti-pattern

believing you are filtering information effectively because you skim rather than read deeply, when skimming actually applies the wrong selection criterion (speed rather than relevance) and misses high-signal content buried in low-salience packaging

Why This Is an Anti-Pattern

Inverts expertise-as-efficient-filtering (Expertise-as-efficient-filtering pattern). Violates Attention as Gate to Conscious Perception (selective attention). Recurs in news consumption, email triage, research review.

Source Lessons

Most information is noise

The vast majority of information you encounter is irrelevant to your actual goals. Treating all inputs as equally worthy of attention is itself a decision — and it is almost always the wrong one.
