Principlev1
Design environmental defaults so that the easiest available
Design environmental defaults so that the easiest available action is the one you would consciously choose if fully deliberate, eliminating the need for repeated willpower-based decisions.
Why This Is a Principle
This derives from People disproportionately stick with default options even (default bias), Behavior follows the path of least resistance due to the (least resistance), and Physical proximity and visibility of objects in an (physical proximity determines interaction). It prescribes how to design choice architecture for automation. This is more specific than the axioms—it tells you what to do with the knowledge that defaults dominate behavior.
